Week 1 Lecture - Creative Arts

In our first lecture, we were to get into groups of three or four and discuss the question given to us, 'What good are the arts?'. Which we then had to express and communicate the answer through an art form.
My group decided to draw a picture of a group of people holding hands to form a heart and an individual creating a heart shape on their own using their arms. We used the colours pink and blue to show the differences between the group and individual. Our aim of the image was to show that the Arts can be expressed as a group or can be expressed as an individual.

From this activity, I was able to understand how the Arts could be used to express our opinions and our answer to a question creatively opposed to the traditional method of writing down the answer in a workbook. I noticed that by asking students to respond through the Art forms also gets students out of the chair and allows them to move around, which is a great why to motivate and engage them as well, especially if they are non-responsive and tired. I would definitely use the Arts as a pedagogy in my classroom!
